My Story

Who Am I?

Let me tell you my story of who I am, what I do, and how I became Awakened.

I am woman who longed for creativity and decided to do something about it. I have walked the walk – talked the talk, done the whining, then made the decision to change, adopted a creativity mindset, and created a new life for myself. Today I live the life I want to live. I awakened my creative voice and now I inspire and motivate others to do the same.

How did I awaken my creativity?

The simple answer: by being myself, taking responsibility, and working very hard. I made a decision to stop whining and do something about it. Now I live my life by my mission and philosophy which supports my greater purpose to transform understanding of creativity (and innovation) one person and company at a time.

But who am I  REALLY? (Ok, I’ll tell it like it is)

  • I am a mixed media artist. I create art because it fills my spirit and I do it every day.
  • I am a mother of two amazing daughters who keep me real.
  • I am a wife of the most supportive husband who helps me stay grounded.
  • I am a woman who has overcome her doubts, fears, and powerful inner gremlins to create the life I want to live.
  • I am aware I don’t have all the answers and I am committed to lifelong learning, growing, and improving myself both professionally and personally.
  • I am choosing to live my life filled with purpose, passion, and by the values I hold dear. My guiding life values are joy, balance, truth, wisdom, and of course, creativity.
  • I am transforming how people think about creativity by dedicating my life to the pursuit of it.

How did I get to this place?  Here’s the story.

For years I yearned to be creative but never was bold enough to take the first step until I hit one of those milestone birthdays. You know, the age that you thought was “REALLY OLD” when you were a child. When I realized I this, I was catapulted into the vast unknown of  “What am I doing with my life????

Ah, the dreaded recognition of marching time had found me.  On my resume, I found success in all my careers as a park ranger, an elementary school teacher, and a business owner. Yet, I never felt complete or fully happy with my life. I longed to do something more creative but was overwhelmed with fear, anxiety, and doubt.  I told myself for years everything from “You are not good enough to be an artist” to “You are too old” to “You don’t have talent” to “You aren’t smart enough” until I believed it. I gave up my dream to go to art school but I never stopped thinking about it.

Instead, I furnished my home with beautiful items made by someone else and I participated in all sorts of art classes and referred to myself as an artist wanna-be. I built a profitable online business supporting other artists by selling their products. I quietly dreamed of making art, finding a fulfilling career and making a meaningful impact on our world.

I whined about not being happy.  I complained that my life had no purpose and that I was living a life that didn’t reflect who I was.  I became bitter, disillusioned, and heard myself trying to empower my children to be authentic, yet I felt like a fraud.

Then I did some real soul searching and I came across some powerful ideas that frightened and inspired me to change.

I stopped whining and decided to take charge of my life.

I decided to sell my former business and dedicate myself to creating a life that would give me greater meaning, reflect who I am, and empower me to use my skills in creativity, teaching, organization, communication,  time management, and entrepreneurship. I want to inspire and motivate others to make the same type of changes in their lives.

Don’t get me wrong. I didn’t just snap my fingers and “VOILA” live my dream life. Who does that? We all know that doesn’t happen. If someone has the secret strategies, program, or pill to make that happen…we’d all do it.

Awakening to who you are can be hard work.

  • I worked hard.
  • I struggled.
  • I cried. (I admit I did a little whining still)
  • I learned.
  • I asked questions.
  • I took risks.
  • I make a decision to change my life and I honored it.

I awakened my creativity.

And I love it.
